Stuck without a room in New York? Try calling the Peak Season Hotel Hotline at (800) 846-7666.. And although the service is free, prepare to dig deep into your wallet.
With “probably the tightest period for availability in 15 years,” according to Hotel Reservation Network President Bob Diener, the search for rooms can be tough. Diener’s Dallas-based firm has a contract with the New York Convention & Visitors Bureau Inc. to run the hotline through the high season, Sept. 1 to Dec. 31.
Prices quoted for rooms near Times Square for Oct. 25 to 26 were $169 to $229, according to calls placed last week to the hotline. The 2-year-old service covers about 100 hotels, Diener said.
