Making Cents: Frequent Fliers, Don’t Wing It

As the year winds down, frequent fliers need to check their mileage statements to see whether they have miles that expire Dec. 31. Most of the major airline affinity program miles expire after three years--but if you request a reward certificate now, it is usually good for another year, giving you plenty of time to choose a city, beach or resort to visit. But you probably have to decide now who will use the award.
