Esperanza Comes Back to Defeat Second-Seeded Dana Hills

Esperanza fell behind in games, 2-0, but came back to upset second-seeded Dana Hills, 10-15, 12-15, 15-13, 15-10, 15-9, in the quarterfinals of Division I-AA girls’ volleyball Saturday.
Jessica Sudduth had 32 kills for Esperanza (13-4). Teammate Trina Kightlinger had 21 kills for the Aztecs and Amy Nihipali had 12.
Esperanza plays Laguna Beach in the semifinals. Dana Hills ends its season 16-2.
In other Division I-AA matches:
Laguna Beach 3, Redlands 1--Liz Belloni had 12 kills in the quarterfinal victory for Laguna Beach, which won, 15-11, 15-8, 10-15, 15-8. The Artists (23-2) will face Esperanza.
Newport Harbor 3, Simi Valley Royal 0--Melissa Snow recorded 13 kills for host Newport Harbor, which won, 15-7, 15-6, 15-5. Fourth-seeded Newport Harbor (16-4) plays Manhattan Beach Mira Costa on Tuesday.
In Division I-A matches:
Capistrano Valley 3, Corona Centennial 1--Kristen Gallup recorded 12 kills for Capistrano Valley, which won, 15-1, 15-6, 15-2. Second-seeded Capistrano Valley (15-3) plays the winner of Saugus-Thousand Oaks match in the semifinals Tuesday.
Fountain Valley 3, Cerritos 1--Larissa Carter recorded 19 kills for Fountain Valley, which won, 15-4, 14-16, 16-14, 15-2. Top-seeded Fountain Valley (17-2) plays Irvine in the semifinals Tuesday.
In Division II-AA matches:
Huntington Beach 3, Santa Fe Springs Santa Fe 0--Lori Daedlow had seven kills in the 15-5, 15-1, 15-8 victory for Huntington Beach (18-2). The Oilers play San Clemente in the semifinals.
San Clemente 3, Riverside North 0--Bridget Beschen recorded 16 kills and Kate Metzger had 14 for San Clemente, which won, 16-14, 15-5, 15-9. San Clemente is 8-10.
In Division II-A matches:
Santa Margarita 3, Brawley Union 0--Kiki Maroutsos recorded seven kills for Santa Margarita, which won, 15-4, 15-3, 15-5. The Eagles (12-5) play St. Joseph’s in the semifinals on Tuesday.
In Division II-A:
Valencia 3, Cypress 1--Erin Dedic recorded 32 kills for Valencia, which won, 15-10, 15-11, 6-15, 16-14. Valencia (19-0) plays the winner of Westlake Village Westlake on Tuesday.
In Division IV-A matches:
Calvary Chapel 3, Brethren Christian 0--T.J. Gause had 12 kills in the 16-14, 15-6, 15-6 victory for Calvary Chapel (13-3). Teammate Amy Owens had 11 kills. The Eagles will play Whittier Christian in the semifinals.
Whittier Christian 3, Mojave 0--Kim Bohannon had seven kills in the victory for Whittier Christian, 15-4, 15-0, 15-12.
In Division V-AA matches:
Capistrano Valley Christian 3, St. Margaret’s 0--Kelly Eisman had seven kills for Capistrano Valley Christian, which won, 15-3, 15-6, 15-2. Allison Bendosh of St. Margaret’s (11-8) had eight kills in the loss. Second-seeded Capistrano Valley (16-3), top-ranked in the state, plays Los Angeles Brentwood Tuesday.
