Re “Good Ending for Sacred Prayer Books,” Nov. 13:
The book in the photo is not a sacred text “100 years old and not suited for further use,” but the classic novel “Tevye the Milkman,” the fiddler on the roof created by my great uncle, Sholom Aleichem, whose bemused smiling visage on the frontispiece you have also reproduced.
That The Times has no Yiddish scholars I understand, but what about the staff of Sinai Temple and the Jewish day school?
I hope they take Tevye’s story out of the “gniza” and give it to some retirement home’s library, where it will still be appreciated and enjoyed.
