Programs that range from teaching kids the benefits of gardening to cleaning up west Ventura streets are expected to receive Ventura City Council approval on Monday.
If approved, the city would administer the programs using almost $40,000 worth of grants from the nonprofit Latino advocacy group El Concilio del Condado, which has received the money from the county. The programs are aimed at children at risk for abuse and neglect.
The West Ventura Community Pride project would receive $22,000 to expand an array of programs that include family education, youth mentoring, street cleaning and gardening.
The westside police storefront and Westpark Community Center would receive $17,800 for sports and cultural programs for middle school and elementary school students.
The council meeting begins at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 501 Poli St.
