Juan Campuzano blocked a field-goal attempt with two seconds left to give Kennedy High a 23-21 victory over Palisades in a City Section 4-A Division game Friday night at Palisades.
Campuzano, a defensive back, deflected a 26-yard effort by Tom Tate.
Ramiro Esqueda kicked a 30-yard field goal with 3 minutes 22 seconds to play to give Kennedy a 23-21 lead. Palisades (8-3) answered with a nine-play, 64-yard drive to set up Tate’s field-goal attempt.
Kennedy (8-3) was led by running back Waking Bailey, who rushed for 122 yards and a touchdown in 25 carries. His five-yard touchdown run in the second quarter cut the Dolphin lead to 14-9.
Calvin Zinck gave the Golden Cougars a 17-14 edge when he found Matt Garnas on a four-yard touchdown pass. It was a rough night for Zinck, the City Section’s leading passer, as he completed just five of 21 passes for 54 yards.
Ramiro Esqueda kicked a 25-yard field goal before Dolphin quarterback Kris Hawkes found Trayvon Waller under pressure for a 67-yard touchdown to give Palisades a 21-20 lead.
