Fire destroyed a $300,000 home in an unincorporated area north of Camarillo on Monday afternoon.
The blaze, which began at 4:15, gutted the 3,000-square-foot home owned by Robert Grether in the 4500 block of Walnut Avenue. It was contained at about 5 p.m., according to a Ventura County Fire Department spokeswoman.
The fire also destroyed the old wooden home’s contents, valued at $100,000. Firefighters’ efforts to combat the blaze were hampered by a lack of fire hydrants in the rural area, said a fire department spokeswoman. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
