School District to Try Again for Passage of Repair Bond Issue

The Los Angeles Unified School District Board of Education voted unanimously Monday to take a second run at a $2.4-billion school repair and construction bond on the April 8 ballot.

The bond measure, which fell one percentage point short of the required two-thirds majority in November, would benefit all 800 campuses and school sites in the district. It would provide $600 million for overdue maintenance and new buildings, playgrounds and computers.

Board member Mark Slavkin, serving as bond campaign chairman, said the near-miss last month proved that “most people do care . . . and can be persuaded.”
