Bicyclist Crossing Street Is Struck by Car

SIMI VALLEY — A 32-year-old Simi Valley man was hospitalized Monday afternoon after being struck by a car while riding his bicycle across a busy intersection near several of the city’s auto dealerships.
Usebio Benites was riding his bicycle east on Agnew Street about 3:40 p.m. when he was struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross 1st Street. The automobile was driven by 24-year-old James Boutain, also of Simi Valley.
Boutain was driving west on Agnew Street was turning left onto southbound 1st Street when the accident occurred, authorities said.
Benites was taken to Simi Valley Hospital with major head injuries but was later transferred to Ventura County Medical Center.
Boutain was questioned at the scene and released. Authorities said no charges have been filed against him.
