Goodwill Industries Volunteers needs help with its antique fashion shows at major hotels, country clubs and churches. The shows feature gowns dating back to the 1860s. Volunteers are needed to work as male and female models (minimum age 17), pianists, commentators and dressers. Pianists should be familiar with 1920s, 1930s and contemporary popular music. Goodwill Industries provides education, job training and placement services for people with disabilities and other vocational disadvantages. The Los Angeles City Department of Animal Regulation needs volunteers to care for shelter animals, help reunite lost pets with their owners and promote the adoption of homeless animals. A volunteer informational meeting will be held Jan. 15 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the East Valley Animal Care and Control Center, 13131 Sherman Way, North Hollywood, and on Jan. 22 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the West Valley Animal Care and Control Center, 20655 Plummer St., Chatsworth. A national network of volunteers called doingsomething, geared toward matching busy professionals with short-term volunteering opportunities, is looking for volunteers. The group works with a wide variety of agencies. Some of the activities include helping at a block party in Hermosa Beach, sorting donations at a thrift shop for HIV/AIDS patients, working with seniors and the homeless. Volunteers are always needed to help with publicity, writing, phone calls, mailings and creating videos and slide presentations.
