NAACP to Protest Speech by Thomas

NAACP officials plan to protest a speech by Clarence Thomas at a youth festival next week, saying the Supreme Court justice offers the wrong role model to young blacks. The Boys & Girls Club chapter that is sponsoring the gathering says the protest could force it to cancel the Jan. 18 benefit. The National Assn. for the Advancement of Colored People opposed Thomas’ appointment to the court, challenging his conservative views on equal rights and affirmative action.
