Props. 209, 215

Please remind voters like Paul Blumstein (letter, Jan. 9) that we are a nation of laws, not people, and we have a Constitution for the very reason Props. 209 and 215 are hung up in the courts. The Constitution protects us from the ebbs and flows of public sentiment.
Please remember, there was a time when the majority of the public accepted slavery. If provisions of the propositions are found to be unconstitutional, there is a process to amend it if the public wants to badly enough.
