Child ‘Pageantry’ or Certain Tragedy?

In response to your story about 6-year-old JonBenet Ramsey (“The Death of a Little Girl,” Jan. 13): I find it incomprehensible that parents subject their children to child beauty pageants. The photographs showing JonBenet at 3 years old wearing makeup and miniskirt are an indication of how we are turning our children into sex objects.
As a child psychologist, I am alarmed at the growing popularity of this kind of exploitation under the guise of “pageantry.” It could only lead to further tragedies.
