Duck update--They have won four of five after beating New Jersey, 3-1, on Wednesday night. This is the first of four consecutive games on the road, where the Ducks are a paltry 6-11-3. The Ducks have lost twice to Phoenix already this season after winning 10 of 11 when the Coyotes were the Jets and based in Winnipeg. The Ducks’ turnaround since a 1-9-2 October can be tied to playing tighter defense. They have held the opposition to three goals or fewer in 24 of their last 33 games.
Coyote update--Phoenix hasn’t played since losing to St. Louis, 4-1, on Jan. 15. Oleg Tverdovsky, a first-round pick by the Ducks in the 1994 draft, continues to be one of the league’s top-scoring defensemen with eight goals and 32 points. Left wing Keith Tkachuk leads the Coyotes with 29 goals and 52 points. Nikolai Khabibulin has taken over as the Coyotes’ No. 1 goaltender after Darcy Wakaluk underwent knee surgery Jan. 9.
