THOUSAND OAKS — Ventura County sheriff’s deputies arrested a Newbury Park man Monday afternoon on suspicion of stealing a school’s food receipts.
Michael Craig Davis, 41, was taken into custody at 3:45 p.m. He remained at Ventura County Jail Monday night in lieu of $5,000 bail.
Deputies released few details about the incident, saying sheriff’s detectives received a tip that food funds had been embezzled at Colina Middle School. Davis was kept under surveillance until his arrest.
He was arrested after an undisclosed amount of money was found to be missing from the school’s food receipts Monday and cash was found in Davis’ possession, deputies said.
School officials could not be reached for comment Monday evening.
