WOODLAND HILLS — An 11-month-old boy nearly drowned Sunday after reportedly falling into a backyard fountain, authorities reported.
The boy, whose name was not released, remained hospitalized in critical condition late Sunday.
When firefighters arrived at the home in the 22000 block of Lopez Street just after 12:30 p.m. “someone appeared to be performing CPR on the child,” said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Jim Wells. “Firefighters continued CPR en route to the hospital.”
The boy was taken to Columbia West Hills Medical Center in West Hills and later transferred to Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Los Angeles.
Few details were available late Sunday, although Wells said someone in the home’s backyard discovered the boy. It was unknown how long the boy had been in the water.
