City May Seek Grant for Renovating Road

The City Council today will consider whether to seek $1.7 million in federal funds to renovate La Paz Road.
The grant would be used for projects that would be as much environmental and aesthetic as structural, City Engineer Ken Rosenfeld said.
The federal Intermodal Surface Transportation Enhancement Efficiency Act, passed in 1991, is Washington’s commitment “to be a little more sensitive to the environment and communities,” Rosenfeld said.
If the city gets the money, La Paz Road would get new landscaping, including a raised median. The thoroughfare, which carries about 25,000 cars daily, would also be repaved and restriped.
