Fishman Shuts Down Poly for Openers, 7-0

Right-hander Shaun Fishman of El Camino Real High pitched a seven-hitter in a 7-0 victory over Poly, a City Section 4-A Division finalist last season, in a San Fernando tournament opener Tuesday at Poly High.

Joel Morales scored three runs and had two hits for the Conquistadores, who reached the City semifinals last season.

Gabe Gomez had two hits for Poly.

In other San Fernando tournament games:

South Gate 10, Kennedy 9--Louie Lopez’s two-run single in the seventh inning wasn’t enough to overcome a 10-7 deficit for the Golden Cougars.

South Gate scored six runs in the fifth inning to take a 10-4 lead.

Monroe 9, Cleveland 4--Adam Kaplan had two hits, scored two runs and drove in two for the Vikings at Monroe.

Monroe junior John Ennis allowed two hits and struck out seven in five innings.

North Hollywood 9, Eagle Rock 0--Abraham Montiel allowed three hits and struck out six for the Huskies at Eagle Rock.

Pablo Rojas hit a three-run home run for North Hollywood.

San Fernando 10, Canoga Park 4--Alex Esqueda had two hits and drove in three runs, and Fernando Rubalcaba drove in two runs for the Tigers at San Fernando.

Birmingham 13, Grant 6--Alberto Flores struck out nine in five innings for the Braves (1-0) at Birmingham.

Rick Hooper had three hits for Birmingham and Estehan Saldivar had three for Grant.

Granada Hills 13, Franklin 10--Relief pitcher Peter Gunney earned a save with a strikeout with two runners on in the seventh for the Highlanders at Granada Hills.

Dan Frisbee had two hits, including a home run, and two RBIs for Granada Hills.

SOFTBALL

Sylmar 15, San Fernando 4--Melody Prendiz and Laura Loyola hit home runs for the Spartans at Sylmar.

Nadine Traba struck out five and walked two for the Spartans.

Campbell Hall d. Notre Dame, 15-3, 15-5, 15-8--Jon Rosenberg led the Vikings (1-0) with seven kills in a nonleague match against Notre Dame (0-1) at Campbell Hall.

Calabasas 16, Oak Park 2--Nick Weiss swept at No. 1 singles for the Coyotes at Calabasas.

Camarillo 11, Santa Barbara 7--No. 1 singles player Jason Gaona swept for the Scorpions at Camarillo.

Hart 221, Chaminade 226--Ryan Wyman had a seven-over par 42 to pace the Indians in a nonleague match at Porter Valley Country Club.
