It Was No Joy Ride 20 Years Ago, Either

Sorry to hear things haven’t improved much on the track since I was a jockey 20 years ago [“No Joy Ride,” Feb. 21]. Back then, the guys would go after you in the race--whip your face, kick your stirrups off, box you in, clip your horse’s heels.
Combine that with only getting crippled mounts or $1,500 claimers, and is it any wonder there aren’t more winning female jocks?
Oh, well, at least the reporter did not use the word “jockette” once in the article.
