No. 1 Westlake Swats Down Santa Barbara in Tennis

The Westlake High boys’ tennis team, ranked No. 1 in Division I, defeated traditional section power Santa Barbara, 13-5, in a nonleague match Thursday at the North Ranch Tennis Club.
The Dons (6-5) have won 10 section titles since 1985, but they lost all but one singles set against the Warriors (11-0).
Westlake Nos. 1 and 2 singles players Darren Joe and Erik Janson each swept three sets, including 6-3 and 6-1 victories over top Southern California junior Sam Adam Webster.
Cleveland 4, Birmingham 3--No. 4 singles player John Ly defeated Jeff Melnick, 7-5, 6-1, to break a 3-3 tie for the Cavaliers (5-4, 3-3) in the Northwest Valley Conference match at Birmingham.
Birmingham’s Anthony Gabriele remained undefeated with a 6-1, 6-0 victory.
El Camino Real 7, Chatsworth 0--Manish Narayan and Bobby Narayan won in straight sets at Nos. 1 and 2 singles for the Conquistadores (7-2, 6-0), who are headed for a Tuesday showdown with Granada Hills for first place in the Northwest Valley Conference.
Granada Hills 4, Taft 3--With the score tied, 3-3, Ashwin Reddy defeated Arash Shirehjini, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4), at No. 2 singles to clinch the victory for Granada Hills (7-0, 6-0).
BOYS’ TRACK
Notre Dame 90, St. Francis 37--Justin Fargas won three events and ran the first leg on the victorious 400-meter relay team to power the Knights (4-0, 3-0) in the Mission League meet at Notre Dame. Fargas clocked personal bests of 10.6 seconds in the 100 and 21.7 in the 200 and won the long jump at 21 feet 9 inches.
