Residents Want to Rename Street

A group of residents along Norwalk’s Orange Street is lobbying to rename the thoroughfare in honor of a sheriff’s deputy who helped drive off a notorious street gang.
Hoping to erase the tie-in to the Orange Street Locos, residents plan to circulate a petition this week in support of renaming the street after Deputy Ken Perry, who helped crack down on the Locos. The proposal would require City Council approval.
But there are difficulties.
“Very seldom do you see streets named after individuals, especially people that are living,” City Manager Ernie Garcia said. He said the change would cost money and might inconvenience some residents.
Perry declined to comment on the proposal.
