Judge Dismisses Deputies’ Suit on Gun Law
- Share via
A federal judge dismissed a lawsuit Monday that sought to block enforcement of a federal statute that prohibits law enforcement officers from carrying weapons if they have been convicted of domestic violence.
The three Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies who filed the suit recently had their convictions expunged in state court. U.S. District Judge Harry Hupp ruled that as a result, the plaintiffs are no longer subject to the law, and thus have no legal standing to file suit.
Richard Shinee, an attorney representing the three deputies, said he will refile the lawsuit after finding new plaintiffs.
