Death Penalty

I agree with Sol Taylor’s view on the lengthy trial time of death row inmates mitigating the effect of the punishment (letter, April 29). But the reason why it takes so long is because our justice system is set up to determine the truth and there are checks and balances along the way to make sure that an innocent person is not executed.

As Taylor expressed, people deserve the death penalty for certain crimes, but the judicial system needs to be carried out fully, so that it will work correctly. If you were to find yourself charged with murder, and convicted wrongly, you would want a trial that covered all aspects of the crime, not one that “execute(s) convicted murderers within one or two years.”
