Burlington Plans Locomotive Shop

Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corp. said it will build a maintenance facility in Commerce as part of its purchase of 405 locomotives from General Motors Corp.’s Electro-Motive Division and General Electric Co.’s Transportation Systems group. About 80 jobs--including about 60 mechanics’ jobs--will be created at the facility, to be located near BNSF’s Los Angeles Intermodal Facility in Commerce. BNSF, based in Fort Worth, also has an existing maintenance yard in Barstow. Burlington shares gained 75 cents to close at $79.125 on the NYSE.
