Swift Goes on Disabled List Again

Colorado Rockies’ right-hander Bill Swift, who aggravated a strained pectoral muscle, was put on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday.

The move is retroactive to Tuesday, but the Rockies have not recalled anyone from triple-A Colorado Springs to replace Swift on the 25-man roster.

Swift (4-1), who has a 4.75 earned-run average in seven starts, began last season on the DL after shoulder surgery. Shoulder problems also led to two stints on the disabled list in 1994 and 1995.

Swift initially strained his right pectoral muscle making a throw to first base against Montreal on April 14. He aggravated the injury Monday while making an off-balance throw to second in Philadelphia.

Cincinnati shortstop Barry Larkin got another cortisone shot in his aching left heel but insisted he was not coming out of the Reds’ lineup.

Larkin is in the midst of one of his worst seasons because of inflammation in the Achilles’ tendon and heel. He had a cortisone shot during spring training, but the pain returned soon into the season.

Montreal Expo left-hander Rheal Cormier, on the disabled list since April 12 because of acute tendinitis in his elbow, agreed to undergo surgery and could be sidelined for the rest of the season. . . . The Cardinals put first baseman Dmitri Young on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 11. Young, the 12th St. Louis player to be on the disabled list this season, has a pulled left calf muscle. . . . Atlanta outfielder Ryan Klesko was scratched from the starting lineup because of a sprained right wrist he injured Monday before the game. He is day-to-day.
