Council to Consider Supermarket Impacts

Some residents say a 24-hour Lucky supermarket proposed near Ventura College would bring unwanted traffic, clouds of exhaust and clanking trucks around the clock. They also say the area already has enough grocery stores.
Lucky representatives say their store will bring economic benefits and traffic improvements to the area.
On Monday night, the City Council will consider whether to approve a set of measures designed to reduce the environmental impacts of the project.
At issue is a proposal to build a 52,298-square-foot, 24-hour, full-service grocery store with 212 parking spaces at the southwest corner of Telegraph and Day roads.
In recent weeks, neighbors and paid Lucky signature gatherers have plied the parking lots of east Ventura in search of signatures to support their cause. Both groups intend to present their lists to the council.
