Broadway Toast to Benefit Haynes
On Monday night, a group of seasoned jazz musicians will perform to help one of their own, jazz singer Stephanie Haynes.
Haynes, who has no health insurance, was hit with big medical bills after an undisclosed illness last month.
“[Being uninsured] is a common thing with musicians,” said Jack Prather, who organized the event to help cover her expenses. Because she is recovering from surgery, Haynes will not attend.
Joining Prather and his trio in a musical toast to Broadway will be trumpeter Brian Atkinson; vocalists Dewey Erney, Cathy Segal-Garcia and Karen Gallinger; guitarist Ron Eschete; vocalist-guitarist Mark Turnbull; pianist Dick Shreve; and drummer Jimmy Ford.
* “The Best of Broadway,” a benefit for Stephanie Haynes, will be presented Monday at 6:30 (sold out) and 8:30 p.m. at DeMario’s, 17 Monarch Plaza, Dana Point. $10 cover, $10 food minimum. (714) 240-9436.
