Quality of Life Top Priority in Ventura

The Ventura Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors would like to applaud the San Buenaventura City Council for the way it handled the Lucky Supermarket proposal.

The proposed project’s location is not compatible with the surrounding residential community and would have a negative impact on neighbors’ quality of life.

The chamber supports bringing business to our community, but we are not willing to sacrifice quality of life while doing so. We welcome the opportunity to help the city find a more suitable location for this business, in that a supermarket provides a valuable service to our community and generates revenue.

It is becoming more difficult for our city to provide the basic services needed by our residents because revenues are not keeping up with expenses. It is imperative that our city initiate a plan to generate more long-term, sustainable revenue, and the chamber is ready to assist the city in this endeavor.

Our board members not only work in Ventura, but most live in Ventura. We have chosen to raise our families here, and we appreciate the wonderful quality of life we have. It doesn’t make sense for us to recommend projects that will not enhance this. We are business people though, and we are keenly aware that this city must generate business revenues in order to operate and provide services that make Ventura such a wonderful place. We welcome residents’ suggestions on how we can do this, and we are always willing to provide a venue for discussion between businesses and residents on any controversial projects.
