‘Glamour’ Jail Infuriating

Re “ ‘Glamour Slammer’ Irks Jail Critics,” May 26:
It is infuriating and disgusting that my tax dollars are paying for accused criminals to lounge around with fresh coffee, access to cable TV, telephones and a CD-ROM law library! And to earn all this they have done nothing but to “not” behave badly?
What ever happened to the concept of working to reach goals? Why can’t we at least require inmates to spend a certain amount of hours on projects for nonprofit organizations (letter stuffing) or require a passing grade in a basic education course or have them outline their strategy on how they plan to assimilate back into society as a law-abiding citizen?
Don’t give inmates privileges, make them earn them like the rest of us.
