I read “Coming Up With the Down Payment” (“Your Mortgage,” May 11) with great interest. However, my interest turned to annoyance as I learned that the only advice the author, Dian Hymer, had was to get the down payment from your parents or a relative.
Those of us who are putting our heads down to work, disciplining our spending practices and doing the old-fashioned thing (saving the money ourselves) need real advice and encouragement about “coming up with the down payment.” Perhaps the headline should have read “How to Get a Mortgage When Your Down Payment Is Given to You.”
