A Little Warmup

Alanis Morissette, Sandra Bullock and Gina Gershon were among the lucky citizens Friday night who saw Radiohead at the Troubadour in West Hollywood in an up-close and personal performance by the popular British band (which also performed a less intimate set at the Weenie Roast in Irvine on Saturday afternoon). Oh yeah, and fellow Weenie roasters, the Foo Fighters, were also in the house. . . .

Those who weren’t in Irvine on Saturday evening were squeezed into the Alligator Lounge in Santa Monica for a sold-out performance by Polar Bear, a groove-heavy trio composed of ex-Jane’s Addiction bassist Eric Avery, former Ethyl Meatplow drummer Biff Sanders and guitarist Thomas Von Wendt. In blase L.A., the group even scored an encore.

And while we’re on the subject, the rumor that Ethyl Meatplow is re-forming, according to Sanders, is completely unsubstantiated. “It’s as unlikely as Eric working with Perry again,” says Sanders (that’s Perry Farrell, folks). Polar Bear’s next show is July 3 at Moguls in Hollywood. . . .

Billboard Live is offering an “Alternative Lifestyles” dance club on Sundays, but not every Sunday. The club, which kicked off last week, is in conjunction with Little Men Productions. The next two nights scheduled for the gay and lesbian club are July 13, which will feature a performance by Bronski Beat, and on July 20, with singer Martha Wash. . . .

The Impala is celebrating its two-year anniversary this weekend with a couple of low-key shows. Friday, the downtown cafe will feature the Polar Goldie Cats, Los Cincos and Crib, and Saturday, it’s the Uphill Gardeners, Ukefink and three noise bands. . . .
