LANCASTER — Sheriff’s deputies early Wednesday critically wounded a man who was threatening to commit suicide and pointed a rifle at them, authorities said.
Robert Davidson, 39, was taken to Antelope Valley Hospital Medical Center, said Sgt. David Holm of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Davidson underwent surgery and was listed in critical but stable condition.
No deputies were injured.
The incident occurred about 12:40 a.m. when the deputies responded to a report of a suicidal man at a residence in the 3000 block of Avenue H--10, authorities said.
When the deputies arrived, Holm said, Davidson ordered them off the property and threatened to shoot them.
After trying unsuccessfully for about half an hour to talk to Davidson, some of the deputies approached the house and a deputy peered through the window, Holm said. Davidson, pointed his rifle at the deputies, one of whom fired several rounds, striking Davidson three times in an arm and upper body, Holm said.
The rifle was recovered at the scene, Holm said.
