Rep. Brad Sherman (D-Sherman Oaks) will deliver the keynote address Friday as the Valley Leadership Institute honors 25 new graduates.
The leadership institute, a nonprofit organization directed by business and civic leaders to educate and train Valley residents on important local issues, recently completed its seventh yearlong program, said Debbie Adelsberg, program coordinator.
“The goal is to educate, to train, to get people more involved in their communities,” Adelsberg said. “The course helps people to realize their full leadership potential.”
Past program graduates include Los Angeles City Councilman Richard Alarcon and state Assemblyman Tony Cardenas (D-Sylmar). About 25 Valley residents representing a broad range of cultures, professions and ages will graduate Friday in a program beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Sportsmen’s Lodge in Studio City, Adelsberg said.
Ed Rose, a founding member of the Pacoima-based nonprofit M.E.N.D. (Meeting Each Need with Dignity), will receive the first “Spirit of Lenore Leadership Award,” for outstanding community volunteerism. The award is named for Lenore Ray, a Valley Leadership Institute facilitator and community activist, who died last year.
Tickets to the graduation and dinner are available for $45.
