Summer enrollment at Orange Coast College is up by 11.6% from the same period last year, according to figures from the Admission and Records office.
About 9,480 students have signed up for summer classes, compared with 8,380 a year earlier.
Figures also indicate that the typical student is taking more classes. The college has recorded an increase of 13% in total units taken and a 20% increase in hours of attendance.
College officials attributed the increase to a 35% expansion of summer program classes, the largest summer session offered by the college. In all, 614 courses are being offered, compared with 399 a year ago.
