SANTA CLARITA — A traffic accident closed two lanes of the Golden State Freeway on Saturday afternoon, causing a nine-mile-long traffic jam that extended into the San Fernando Valley.
The two-car accident occurred about 1 p.m. on the northbound side of the freeway near Calgrove Boulevard, said California Highway Patrol spokesman Bruce Ferrier.
A spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County Fire Department said two people were taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, but there was no immediate word on their condition.
The CHP closed two freeway lanes for two hours. By the time the lanes were reopened, the line of traffic snaked from Santa Clarita to the junction of Interstate 5 and the Foothill Freeway.
