‘Love Among the Ruins’ (****)

George Cukor directed this Emmy-laden 1975 TV movie, which paired Katharine Hepburn and Laurence Olivier for the first and only time. In James Costigan’s Edwardian period romantic comedy, tinged with as much pathos ashilarity, Hepburn plays a rich, retired actress faced with a breach-of-promise suit brought against her by a much younger man. Olivier, an eminent barrister, is hired to defend her. To his immense chagrin, she fails to recognize him as a former love who’s been carrying a torch for her for decades. Gallant, brave, wonderful.
