Proud Flights of Fancy Along Parade Route

From Times Wire Services

Tens of thousands of people lined the streets of West Hollywood on Sunday for the annual Christopher Street West Gay and Lesbian Pride Festival and Parade.

The festival, featuring a kaleidoscope of costumes and floats, was expected to draw about 300,000 over two days. It marks the anniversary of the 1969 New York City police raid on a gay hangout, the Stonewall Inn.

This year’s festival included a ceremony in which about 70 same-sex couples were officially certified as registered domestic partners in West Hollywood. The ceremony was officiated by West Hollywood Mayor Sal Guarriello.

The festival is sponsored by the nonprofit organization Christopher Street West.
