Retired lighting store owner and longtime Ventura resident Leif N. Syslack died Saturday following a brief illness. He was 83.
Syslack was born Nov. 27, 1913, in Racine, Wis. He had been a 34-year Ventura County resident, coming from the San Fernando Valley.
In 1968, he and his wife, Shirley, opened Lights Beautiful in Ventura, and continued doing business from that location until their retirement in 1982.
Following his retirement, Syslack began attending court trials at the county courthouse in Ventura. He befriended other men at the courthouse, and they attended trials and shared lunch together.
Syslack enjoyed gardening and was an avid tennis player.
He is survived by his wife; son Scott of Ventura; daughter Chriss Cossel-Owens of Simi Valley; brothers Stanley and Milton, both of Racine, Wis.; sister Margaret Selkurtof Arlington Heights, Ill.; two grandsons; and a granddaughter.
A private family service will be held.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Ted Mayr Funeral Home, Ventura.
