Marine Dies, 2 Hurt in Pendleton Crash

CAMP PENDLETON — A Marine died and two others were injured Wednesday when their armored vehicle tumbled over an embankment.
The injured Marines, whose conditions were unknown, were taken to San Diego County hospitals. The other Marine died at the scene of the 3:45 p.m. accident.
The names of the Marines were withheld until their relatives could be notified.
The accident occurred in a mountainous training area of the north San Diego County base. The Marines were riding in a Light Armored Vehicle, an eight-wheel, all-terrain vehicle that can carry up to nine people. No other passengers were in the vehicle, which has been in use since 1984.
The cause of the accident has not been determined.
