Disabled Man Jumps Into Pool to Rescue Drowning Woman

INDIANAPOLIS — A man paralyzed from the waist down jumped from his wheelchair into a swimming pool to rescue a drowning woman.
“I just jumped in and did what anybody else should do,” said Darrell Colson, a former tree-trimmer paralyzed about four years ago by a fall from a tree.
Colson, who swims in the apartment pool for therapy, rolled his wheelchair to the edge of the pool and dove in Tuesday, fishing 20-year-old Orain Williams from about 8 feet of water. She was listed in critical condition at a hospital.
Colson grabbed one of Williams’ arms and used his upper body strength to reach the pool’s edge, where another resident, Kimberly Williams, helped him lift her out of the pool.
