Pierce College’s Future

Re “Pierce Must Balance Saving Its Past and Facing Its Future” Oct. 19.
Even though I drive by Pierce College on a weekly basis, I had never paid much attention to the farm. I can say, though, that the land is not too attractive [and] seems out of place, with cars zooming by on Victory Boulevard.
Neighbors may complain that they would rather have a farm [near] their homes than another mini-mall crowded with people, but will they put money and effort into keeping the farm as it is? If Pierce is on a tight budget and needs to use the farm to obtain money to improve the college, it should have that right to do so. What is more important: the improvement of the college to benefit the students, or neighbors of Pierce being satisfied because it’s nicer to have green pasture next door than another shopping center?
I believe that Pierce should act based on how the development or preservation of the farm would benefit the college to further benefit the students and staff. If people want green pastures neighboring their homes, they should move where they can enjoy this without disrupting the advancement of the educational system. As a high school student who cares about education, and has peers who attend Pierce for extra courses, I believe the development of education is extremely important.
