Mac Bernd will serve his last day as superintendent of the Newport-Mesa Unified School District on Dec. 19.
At its meeting on Tuesday, the board officially accepted Bernd’s resignation, which he announced two weeks ago. He has taken a job as the top administrator at Arlington Independent School District in Texas. He begins his new post Jan. 1.
Newport-Mesa’s board already has begun interviewing candidates to act as interim superintendent while they conduct a nationwide search for Bernd’s replacement.
Bernd has been Newport-Mesa’s superintendent since 1993.
