Raibon Gets 25 Points as Irvine Valley Wins

Damian Raibon scored 25 points as Irvine Valley defeated Southwestern, 81-74, in an opening-round game at the Irvine Valley Bill Mulligan men’s basketball tournament Thursday.
Ben Esplin scored 21 points, including 12 on three-pointers, and grabbed 10 rebounds and David Wilson contributed 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Lasers (2-0).
Irvine Valley will meet Long Beach, a 92-62 winner over West Los Angeles, in a semifinal game at 8 tonight.
Riverside and Cerritos play in the other semifinal at 6 p.m.
In the Fullerton men’s basketball tournament:
Saddleback 76, L.A. Southwest 64--Marshall Freeman scored 17 points and got six rebounds to lead Saddleback to the victory over Los Angeles Southwest. Saddleback (4-0) led, 38-31, at halftime.
Saddleback meets Los Angeles Valley in one semifinal at 5:30 tonight and Fullerton plays Palomar in the other at 7:30 p.m.
The championship game is at 7:30 p.m. Saturday
In men’s nonconference basketball:
Moorpark 73, Golden West 70--Todd Jones of Golden West scored 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the Rustlers’ loss to visiting Moorpark.
Ceneka Shaw of Moorpark (3-0) broke a 67-67 tie on a dunk with 1:38 remaining in the second half to give the Raiders the lead for good. Golden West dropped to 0-2.
