Group Alleges D.A. Is Investigating Mayor

A community group protesting the City Council’s approval to transfer fire services to the county has alleged that the mayor is being investigated for failure to disclose contributions.
Ernie Gutierrez of El Monteans for Responsible Local Government contended in a news release that Mayor Patricia Wallach is under investigation by the district attorney’s office for not disclosing financial contributions from Firefighter’s Union Local 1014.
The union favored the transfer.
The Board of Supervisors is scheduled to vote on the matter Nov. 25.
Wallach said she had received contributions from the union and that it was reported, albeit belatedly because of a paperwork mix-up. Wallach vehemently denied that she is under investigation.
“Gutierrez is on a political witch hunt,” she said.
Mike Carroll, head of the district attorney’s special investigation division, would not confirm or deny that his office is investigating Wallach.
