Fidel Castro

In his speech to the Communist Party to open the national congress (Oct. 9), Fidel Castro criticized the U.S. style of democracy as a system that “exploits, oppresses and excludes the great majority.” And I ask: Why have thousands and thousands of Cubans risked their lives and those of their children trying to flee his “paradise island,” in search of freedom and a better life in the United States?
But the biggest story of all is the title of the congress’ agenda: “The Party of Unity, Democracy and the Human Rights We Defend.” Someone, please, send Fidel a dictionary.
