Esperanza has used victories over Los Alamitos the last two seasons as the launching pad to winning back-to-back Sunset League titles (though the Aztecs shared last year’s with Los Alamitos and Fountain Valley). Beating the Griffins will be tougher this time. In losses to Rancho Alamitos and Pasadena Muir, Esperanza’s secondary (and defense as a whole) has been vulnerable to the kind of speed possessed by Los Alamitos receiver Keenan Howry. The Griffins’ defense has yet to be tested, but it won’t be pushed around like it was last year during Esperanza’s 24-20 victory.
