Funeral services for Michelle Briones, a soccer player who graduated from Canyon High in 1995, were held Friday in Newhall.
Briones, who helped Canyon reach the Southern Section Division III semifinals in 1995, was killed a week ago in a car accident near the merger of the 5 and 170 freeways.
“The amount of people [at the funeral] showed how many lives Michelle touched,” said former Canyon girls’ soccer coach Michele Braseros. “It was a privilege to coach her and have her as a friend.”
Briones was a three-year varsity midfielder at Canyon. She attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo before recently transferring to Cal State Northridge.
Canyon officials have established a scholarship in Briones’ name for a senior on the girls’ soccer team.
