Gov. Pete Wilson added $50,000 Wednesday to a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the motorist who shot and wounded Long Beach Police Officer Brian Watt, bringing the total award to $60,000.
Speaking at a news conference at Police Department headquarters, Wilson called the attack an “appalling, cowardly, brutal act.”
Watt was shot in the head and leg July 9 after pulling over a speeding car that had been carjacked. His helmet deflected one of the bullets.
The main suspect in the shooting is Aaron Hefflin, 29, an alleged member of the Mexican Mafia and an associate of a Compton street gang. He is described as 5 feet, 6 inches tall, 160 pounds, with brown eyes and a tattoo on his chest.
