County health officials have reopened a strip of coastline below Heisler Park that was closed last weekend due to a sewage spill.
“The results of the testing indicate the water quality meets state water quality standards for swimming,” said Larry Honeybourne, water quality supervisor for the Orange County Health Care Agency. The beach reopened at 4 p.m. Thursday.
The 600-foot stretch of coastline north of Main Beach has been off-limits to swimmers since Sunday when, according to city estimates, 40,000 gallons of raw sewage spilled into the ocean after a main sewer line became clogged with roots and rags.
