Braves Obtain Myers to Back Up Backstops

The Atlanta Braves acquired catcher Greg Myers from the Minnesota Twins on Friday for a player to be named.
Myers, 31, becomes the fourth catcher on the roster, along with Javier Lopez, Eddie Perez and Tim Spehr.
Myers, who played for the Angels before signing with the Twins as a free agent in 1995, hit .267 with five home runs and 28 runs batted in 62 games for Minnesota.
Myers was to join the Braves for Friday night’s game in San Diego. To make room for him on the roster, the club designated pitcher Joe Borowski for assignment.

Houston Astro infielder Tim Bogar, who suffered a season-ending broken left arm when he was hit by a pitch Thursday, will undergo surgery today to insert a plate into his forearm.
The procedure requires four to six weeks for recovery.
